The following is a call for papers for an international conference on the topic “Innovative
applications on Frontier Models in Seaports” organized by UECE (Research Unit on Complexity and Economics) at ISEG (School of Economics and Management), Technical University of Lisbon, Rua do Quelhas
6, 1200-781, Lisbon, Portugal on 5 September 2008. Papers presented at
the conference will be selected to be published in a special issue of
Maritime
Economics & Logistics.
Topic
Over the past few years seaport efficiency has been a major issue on
economic research. Seaport efficiency has significant economic, social and
political implications for regional development. As a consequence,
governments must put forward effective competitive policies. Research
suggests that the causes of inefficiency are due to bad governance and other
institutional constrains, inadequate geographical location, and inadequate
portfolio composition of assets. The objective of the conference is to
assemble innovative applications in seaport efficiency. We look forward to
receiving papers on a variety of relevant topics, as well as different
approaches, theoretical and empirical, emphasizing policy implications of
seaports efficiency.
